Description:
DYW Live is working with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) to offer the Maritime Studies National Progression Award to learners across Scotland. The course will be taught via live lessons delivered on MS Teams on Glow, starting in August 2023.
Careers in the Maritime Industry:
There are a wide range of career pathways in the Maritime industry such as, apprenticeships in aquaculture, fishing, and deck crew positions in the merchant navy, engineering & deck officer cadetships, range of careers on the Royal Navy
Candidates who complete the NPA Maritime Studies can progress into further studies that will allow them to gain the necessary qualifications to apply for cadetships.
The course:
NPA Maritime Studies consists of five SQA credits – 4 mandatory & 1 optional.

Course delivery:

- Course is delivered remotely through MS Teams in the GLOW platform.
- There will be two weekly lectures delivered by staff at UHI Outer Hebrides.
- The course will be delivered over a single academic year.
- The course is assessed through a combination of short coursework and invigilated assessments.
- Invigilated assessments will be carried out by local school staff and sent to UHI staff for marking.
- Classes should have suitable supervision arrangements to ensure that everyone is able to engage constructively in the lessons.
